CURCUMA

Plants belonging to this genus (like so many zingiberaceae) are used for food and medicinal purposes. The most useful spice is Curcuma longa or saffron of indie (very often referred to as turmeric no specific specifications). The vibrant yellow color of the powdered root is used as a completely harmless food dye.
